Kennel is a free container security tool that delivers instant analysis of container images without requiring login or registration. It extracts multi-generator CycloneDX SBOMs, identifies vulnerabilities by scanning packages against Google's OSV database, and checks end-of-life dates for components in your containers.
The tool operates through four automated phases: secure image retrieval from Docker Hub or private registries, intelligent detection of interpreters and package managers, generation of targeted SBOMs using the most appropriate tools for detected environments, and cross-referencing against open-source vulnerability databases.
Kennel prioritizes privacy by design, hosting all operations in German data centers with strict European data sovereignty compliance. Container images are extracted and analyzed entirely in-memory, with scan metadata cached only to generate shareable reports before automatic purging. Private registry credentials are evaluated only during retrieval and never logged or stored.
The service offers interactive reporting with complete visibility into image contents, including dependency trees, license auditing, and layered build history reconstruction. Reports can be shared as interactive links or exported as PDF documents.

What is an SBOM?
A software bill of materials lists components, versions, licenses, and relationships. Kennel produces CycloneDX SBOMs per discovered generator and path in the image.
Which images can I scan?
Container images from Docker Hub, private registries, and similar OCI registries. You provide registry URL, tag, and architecture, along with pull secret and insecure TLS if needed.
What does the EOL check show?
EOL resolves support status and end-of-life dates for components in the image. It starts automatically with the report so you can see which packages are still supported.
Can I share a report?
Yes. Use the share button to copy the full report link for recipients to view the interactive report including SBOM, vulnerabilities, EOL, and container image pages. Alternatively, share a summary snapshot where the key findings live entirely in the link and need no server.
Can I save a report as PDF?
Yes. For each SBOM environment you can export a PDF report with image metadata, package list, license overview, and the vulnerabilities known at scan time.
