Velo Workspaces: the homepage

Velo Workspaces is a Mac application for creating Linux and macOS virtual machines on Apple silicon. Users can create Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora or Rocky Linux workspaces from official cloud images in about a minute, with optional unattended installation. The app includes a built-in SSH terminal signed in with your Mac's keychain, disposable workspaces that delete themselves when closed, and AI Bridge for running local model inference from inside a workspace. It supports shared folders, VS Code Remote-SSH integration, serial console access, clipboard sharing, and Rosetta 2 for running x86_64 binaries on Apple Silicon. All workspaces run on a private network inside your Mac with no account or cloud dependency required.

Quick answers

  1. Which Linux systems can I create from a cloud image?

Ubuntu 26.04 and 24.04 LTS, Debian 13 and 12, Fedora 44 Cloud Base, and Rocky Linux 10 and 9. The app downloads the vendor's official image and sets up your account and this Mac's SSH key on first boot, usually in about a minute.

  2. How do I open a terminal in a workspace?

Open the workspace's Access tab and click Open Terminal (Pro). The built-in terminal signs in over SSH with a key kept in your Keychain. The ssh command works with your own terminal or VS Code for free.

  3. Why does macOS ask Velo Workspaces for Local Network access?

Workspaces sit on a virtual network inside your Mac (192.168.64.x), which macOS counts as the local network. The SSH check and terminal connect there, so macOS asks once. The app does not browse or scan your network.

  4. How do I enable Rosetta in a Debian workspace?

Debian uses the same apt and update-binfmts tooling as Ubuntu. Mount the rosetta VirtioFS share, install binfmt-support, then register Rosetta with update-binfmts using Apple's published magic bytes and mask.

  5. What happens to a Disposable Workspace when I close it?

It is deleted completely, disk and all. There is nothing to clean up and nothing to recover.
