PHP Checker provides free tools for developers, agencies and site owners to understand PHP versions. The PHP Version Checker shows which version a website runs and whether it still receives security updates. The code compatibility checker lets you test code against seven real PHP builds from 7.4 to 8.5 to find the minimum version needed, with all syntax errors and deprecated functions identified. The PHP Sandbox allows running code in your browser, and the EOL calendar tracks support dates for each PHP version. All code tools run entirely in your browser compiled to WebAssembly, so your code never leaves your device. Only the website checker communicates with the server because browsers cannot read another site's response headers.

How do I check the PHP version of a website?
Type the address into the PHP Version Checker. It reads public signals like X-Powered-By and Server response headers, PHP session cookies, and CMS generator tags. If the server exposes its version, you get the exact number, support status and end-of-life date.
Why can't the checker find the PHP version of my site?
Well-configured servers hide the PHP version by setting expose_php = Off in php.ini. Many hosts and CDNs strip this header as good security practice. To see your own site's version, use php -v via SSH, a temporary phpinfo() file, WordPress Site Health or your hosting control panel.
How do I check which PHP version my code needs?

Which PHP version should I use in 2026?
Use PHP 8.5 for new projects and at least PHP 8.3 for existing sites. PHP 8.2 receives its last security fixes on Dec 31, 2026. PHP 8.1 and older versions are already end of life and no longer receive security patches.
