PlugMCP is a directory and hosting platform for MCP servers and agent skills. The Directory MCP is one endpoint you add to Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Codex, Grok Bot or ChatGPT that lets your agent search and install MCP servers and skills directly from the chat. It returns ranked results with health and authentication signals, plus the exact install config for your client, with no key required to start. PlugMCP also hosts MCP servers on its gateway, provides API keys for higher call limits, and logs activity per tool call and daily. The directory is seeded from the official MCP Registry and GitHub.

Do I need a key to use Directory MCP?
No. Without a key the directory MCP answers 50 tool calls a day per address with compact results. A free PlugMCP account key raises that to 500 a day with every field, and a paid plan to 20,000.
How do I send the API key?
Send it as a header: Authorization: Bearer . Create the key on the PlugMCP dashboard. It is shown once and only its hash is stored.
Does Directory MCP work in ChatGPT?
Yes, as a remote connector with the URL https://plugmcp.ai/mcp-server. ChatGPT cannot send a key header, so it uses the no-key tier.
Does PlugMCP install or run servers for me?
It finds them and returns the install config for your client. The servers themselves run at their publishers, not on PlugMCP.
What does PlugMCP log?
One line per tool call in server logs showing the tool, search words, timing and an address hash that changes daily, plus daily totals in the directory database. Nothing about a call is written to the account database.
