A Mac utility that safely merges folders with full preview, preventing accidental data loss that Finder's replace function causes.
What it is
Mergd: the homepage
Mergd is a Mac utility that safely merges two folders by showing you exactly what will happen before any files are moved. Unlike Finder's Replace function which can delete files, Mergd preserves everything—files that lose conflicts go to the Trash, not permanently deleted.
The app works by selecting two folders in Finder, right-clicking and choosing Merge Safely, then reviewing the complete merge plan. Conflicts can be resolved by keeping the newest version, keeping both, keeping the destination, or deciding per-file. Everything runs locally on your Mac with no network access, no account required, and no subscription—just a one-time purchase.

Quick answers
What happens to files when they lose a conflict?
Files that lose a conflict go to the Trash, where they remain recoverable. On volumes without a Trash, Mergd quarantines them in a folder instead. There is no code path that erases a file.
How does Mergd handle app bundles and photo libraries?
Mergd treats apps, Photos libraries, GarageBand projects and other bundles as sealed units. It compares and moves them as complete items and never reaches inside them.
Does Mergd require an account or send data to servers?
No. Mergd runs entirely locally on your Mac in the Mac App Store sandbox with no network access and no account required. Your files never leave your computer.
What happens if a merge is interrupted?
Every operation is journaled as it completes, so if you sleep, crash or eject mid-merge, Mergd resumes or rolls back instead of leaving a half-merged folder structure.
