What it is
Velo: the homepage
Velo is a premium reading app for iOS, iPad, and Mac that transforms how users read their own DRM-free EPUBs and PDFs. The app offers three reading modes: Focus Mode displays one word at a time at speeds from 50 to 1,000 WPM with timing that adapts to punctuation and complexity; Scrub Mode allows gesture-controlled momentum-based browsing through text; and Reader Mode provides traditional paginated reading with highlighted position.
The app includes intelligent PDF processing that detects chapters, links footnotes and endnotes, strips headers and page numbers, resequences two-column layouts, and uses on-device OCR for scanned PDFs. For complex academic documents, Enhanced Processing uses AI to extract and structure content server-side. Additional features include read-aloud with word-by-word tracking, offline reading with cloud sync across devices, Velobrary with free public-domain classics, highlights in multiple colors, notes, dictionary lookup, and reading statistics with weekly charts.
Users can import books from Files, Safari, Mail, or any app's Share Sheet. The app respects privacy by keeping books on-device for ordinary reading, with data reaching servers only for optional Enhanced Processing or cloud sync, both encrypted in transit and at rest.

Quick answers
What file formats does Velo support?
Velo reads DRM-free EPUB, PDF, TXT and Markdown files. Books from Kindle or Apple Books are locked to those stores and cannot be opened in third-party readers.
Does Velo work offline?
Yes. Imported books are stored on your device and are fully readable with no connection. Web article saving and Enhanced Processing both require a connection.
What is Focus Mode?
It is a reading technique based on RSVP research that displays one word at a time at a fixed point. The pace is yours, from a slow focus lock to a quick pass over easy prose.
How do I sync my library across devices?
Cloud sync is a Velo Pro feature. Create a Velo account, subscribe, and your books and reading progress sync automatically across your devices.
How do I cancel my Velo Pro subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. Go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions on your device to manage or cancel.
