Koru: the homepage
Koru is a free, open-source workspace for notes, documents and AI integration that runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Your work stays in a local database on your device with no account required, and the app works fully offline. Notes sync directly between your devices end-to-end encrypted through peer-to-peer connection, or you can use the optional Koru Cloud service for always-on sync and backup.
Koru integrates with AI agents you choose through a local MCP server, letting Claude, Codex and other tools work with your documents. The app includes voice input that captures speech locally without sending audio to the cloud, and supports importing notes from Evernote, Notion, OneNote, Google Docs, Markdown and TextBundle. Koru emphasizes privacy, data ownership and interoperability, with all code publicly available on GitHub under the MPL-2.0 license.

Does Koru work with AI?
Yes, with the AI you choose. Connect Claude or another MCP client to Koru's local MCP server, run Claude Code in a terminal tab, or use a local model through Ollama. Koru never makes you use a Koru cloud AI.
Which features need an internet connection?
Only the ones that talk to something else: syncing with your other devices, importing from Google Docs, and any cloud AI you connect. Writing, search, imports from files and your shells all work offline.
